Fruit is our friend

One of the best parts of eating healthy is enjoying fruit.

Here are a few thoughts on fruit.

  • Ask the fruit grocer what’s good. Fruit is best when it’s in season. Ask them what is the best apple for your tastes, which oranges are peaking right now, etc… They’re proud of their produce and they want you to come back.
  • Try new fruits. This picture is from my trip last week to France.  The melons in the back were unique and delicious as were the cherries.
  • Stop at roadside stands.  The produce in stores was picked green to be ready to eat by the time it got to the store. Roadside fruit is fresh. GET SOME! Just make sure to wash the fruit well.
  • Go to a new store once in a while. You’ll always find new fruit options.
  • Fruit IS desert for billions of people. In Asia you’ll enjoy fresh, cool fruit for desert.  Most meals in Europe end with fruit and cheese. Plan ahead like you would plan your main dish or side and prepare a nice bowl of watermelon, peaches and pears (for example) and top with a little grated lemon peel and fresh chipped mint.
